The New York Sun crossword is better than the New York Times puzzle
As I've mentioned previously, I'm a huge fan of the New York Times crossword, and have been doing it for more than a decade now. Earlier this year, after discovering Rex Parker Does the New York Tims Crossword Puzzle (essential reading for puzzle fans) I was inadvertently introduced to the New York Sun crossword, which - believe it or not - has come close to overtaking the Times as the number one crossword in my heart. The Sun crossword follows the Times' easy to hard daily progression, however, Sun crosswords are often considerably tougher than their Times' counterparts. I'd say the level of difficulty of Peter Gordon's crosswords is one day ahead of Will Shortz's, with a Sun Monday puzzle feeling roughly like a Times Tuesday, etc. I can complete a Thursday Times puzzle around 50% of the time, but a finished Thursday Sun is near-impossible for me. And forget about the Sun's Friday "Weekend Warrior" puzzles.
Anyway, this is all a preamble to what has to be the most creative crossword puzzle I've ever completed.
You can access all of the New York Sun's crossword puzzles online for free. If you are a fan of crossword puzzles and are looking for the holy grail, click here.
Then click on the Tuesday, August 14th puzzle.
As of late, the Sun (check out Green Genius for Rex Parker-like commentary on the Sun puzzle) has really been pushing the envelope with regards to feats of crossword creativity. Bear in mind that I am generally a Monday-Thursday puzzle man, so I have not witnessed the majority of crazy Friday and Saturday constructions. Regardless, this has to be one of the most amazing feats of crossword construction in history.

Thanks for the plug. I'm glad you agree with me about the SUN puzzles, and you're right about that Tuesday puzzle. It was astonishing.
