Jenny Lewis

AM New York had a feature on indie rockers Rilo Kiley today in their music section. Rilo Kiley is fronted by Jenny Lewis, who, for those of you born in the early 80s, was the daughter in "Troop Beverly Hills," played Alan's girlfriend on the acclaimed but ultimately doomed "Brooklyn Bridge" television series and most importantly played Fred Savage's love interest in 1989's Nintendo-themed masterpiece, "The Wizard" (yes! X-Entertainment reviews it!). Come on, tell me you saw that movie and didn't have the biggest crush on Jenny ever. My nine-year-old self definitely had a mini-obsession with her for a while.

She was off the radar for quite some time, but over the last few years she resurfaced as underground rock heads and critics alike have taken notice of Rilo Kiley. The band's guitarist is Blake Sennett, and while the name might not mean much to you, he also had a short but sweet career as a TV actor, most notably in Nickelodeon's wonderful "Salute Your Shorts" as Pinsky, and as one of Harley's goons in the also-excellent "Boy Meets World."

The band itself is pretty good; they have a number of great songs but they also have a decent amount of meh material as well. Standouts from their first album are "Bulletproof," "Always" and "Pictures of Success." I bought their sophomore release, "The Execution of All Things," which is a bit too alt-country for me, although the title track happens to be outstanding. They have a new record coming out next month, "More Adventurous," and if you're interested in attempting to meet your childhood crush, the band is playing at the Knitting Factory this coming Wednesday. Judging by the cute pic they ran on the front page of the paper, Ms. Lewis still looks damn good.

I know; I really have no idea how I managed to write this post as coherently as I did.
